East Coast restaurants

We don't travel often to the East Coast, but we do have family and friends there. Our most recent trip was at the end of May 2012, when we traveled from the Hudson River NY area through southeastern Connecticut.

CONNECTICUT

Back Porch, Old Lyme - Average food, but a wonderful outdoor patio that overlooks the Connecticut River is a perfect place to eat on a summer's day

Morning Glory Cafe, Old Lyme - Better for lunch than breakfast, but a charming immigrant success story (the owner is Cambodian).

Outback @La Quinta Inn, Danbury - A chain steakhouse that excelled in both food and service. An unexpected find, and we were delighted.

River Tavern, Chester - If you're from CA you'll feel right at home here. Chef/owner Jonathan Rapp is an excellent cook, creative and knowledgeable, who likes to bring different regional cuisines to this little town.

NEW YORK

Hudson House, Nyack - A lovely historic building in this Victorian town serves light breakfast entrees but substantial lunch sandwiches. Dinner looked very interesting, if we ever return to the area.

Tigin Irish Pub @JFK, Jamaica - Terrible, simply terrible. Even the club soda tasted weird. You're better off at McDonald's in pre-security Terminal 4.

Vetro by Russo's on the Bay, Howard Beach - Awesome, stupendous, magnificent...words fail us. The food is good, and the service is even better, with a properly trained, traditional maitre d'hotel setup. We wish they would open in our home town!

Virgin America Air - Believe it or not, airline food that's edible! Especially in business/first class; the food was delicious. Be sure to cop the terrific swag: the salt and pepper shaker is a clear plastic aeroplane that's adorable!
